I'm surprised that I can even see my computer screen with as much as I have been rolling my eyes over Bon Appetit's decision ot have Gwyneth Paltrow on the cover of their May issue. I could have sworn that I sprianed my eyeballs.
Luckily, I was able to vent my aggravation in this exclusive Tree.Com post, Bon Appetit & Gwyneth Paltrow Leaves Sour Aftertaste.
I hope you like it!

One More About the One Million
I know that I never wrote a proper post on this site about reaching my One Million Steps goal, that is because I was asked by the Tree.Com editors to write one for them. Which I did.
I reached my goal on April 11th. It was a happy day for me not only because of the goal but because it was also my birthday and Superfro brought me cupcakes. I'd walk to the moon for a cupcake.
In any case, if you have not read my story on Tree, you can find it here:

Someone Old, Something New: Episode Two
I've got more new things that I've been trying out that I'd like to share. Mostly they are food things, because really, it's the most common thing for me to "try out" on a regular basis. Plus, I like to use my blog as an excuse to do "research!"
First up, Thomas' Bagel Thins:
Thomas' has been making up tasty English muffins since 1874 and now produces a whole line of "breakfast breads," including their signature English muffins, regular sized bagels, mini bagels, thin bagels, swirled toasting breads and toastable pancakes. A few months ago I got around to trying their Bagels since Superfro and I are working on eating lower calorie snacks. I love bagels but I'm not much of a sliced bread fan. Spongy and soft bread will make me gag even when I just touch it so I tend to steer clear of most breads and even hamburger buns (unless they are well toasted.) Even bagels are touch-and-go. There have been many a time when I've had to spit out a bite of bagel if I get special vomity feeling in my throat while chewing.
To the rescue, Bagel Thins. They are pretty much everything I need in a carb: great chewy consistency, fits nice in the toaster, delicious plain or with assorted toppings, 110 calories per serving and not packaged in loaf form.
For my perfect snack or breakfast I set my toaster on high and brown the bagel nice and crisp before adding a little raspberry jam. I also went back a few decades to one of my childhood favorites, a simple cinnamon and; sugar sprinkling. Superfro and I have also used the Bagel Thins in meals, toasting them under the broiler then using a pizza cutter to make little toasts for soups and pasta. They also make great sandwiches. It would not be hard for me to find a way to eat a Bagel Thin at every meal.
You can find Thomas' Bagel Thins in Plain, Whole Wheat, Everything and; Cinnamon/Raisin.
Snickers Peanut Butter
Back in May Mos Steph and I picked up some sampled of Snickers Peanut Butter at the All Candy Expo. Due to unseasonable hot weather (scorching!) my sample got ruined and I never got to try it. Seven months later and they are starting to hit the shelves all over the nation and my eagle eyed friend Matt Martin snagged one for me. Snicker Peanut Butter comes with 2 small square bars per package, slightly smaller than an average Snickers bar (1.78 oz to 2.07 oz.)
Overall, it's just a regular Snickers with an infusion of peanut butter. Not the salty, crumbly peanut butter that you find in a Reeses Peanut Butter Cup but more like a peanut butter nougat. *shrug* I don't really know what to say, it's a Snickers bar. I think if I was hankering for a peanut butter and chocolate candy bar I would veer straight for a Reeses.
Just a few days after Christmas I came down with a wretched cold. I was having a hard time sleeping with all the congestion and the coughing and needed some relief. Luckily, several months early I had scored some of Tylenol's new cold liquids on sale at CVS and had set them aside for just such an occasion. Tylenol as a whole array of new liquids including a Honey Lemon Warming Liquid multi-symptom nighttime version, which is what I tried.
All I can say is that it knocked me in sweet, sweet slumber without leaving me in a haze the next day. I don't know what it's made of, I don't even know if it's legal (it is) but I'm rushing out to get as many bottles as I can to carry me though every cold I have for the rest of my life. Suck on that Theraflu! (Just kidding Theraflu, I still love you and all your many varieties!)
Cinnamon Burst Cheerios
General Mills has yet to make a Cheerios I don't like and yet, this new version, called "Cinnamon Burst" just might be my favorite of all time!
I've become incredibly picky about cereal because of the ratio of calories to amount of food in a serving. Back in the good old days I would just fill up my favorite bowl and go to town, now I'm checking labels to make sure that I'm getting the most for my calories. With Cheerios a serving is 1 cup for about 110 calories, a caloric bargain when compared to some other cereals!
But let me tell you about the taste! OK, remember how they make those cinnamon rolls in the cardboard tubes that you have to pop open? And remember how, like, at the end of the roll there would be a smidgen of the cinnamon filling smooshed up against the end of the tube? And remember how you would take your finger and wipe it off then eat it and it how it was soooo good and the essence of cinnamon rolls would just linger in your mouth and it was almost better than the rolls themselves? Yeah, that's how Cinnamon Burst Cheerios taste. Just. Like. That.
Now, I don't know how long this Cinnamon Burst is gonna last, it could be for just a short while, or maybe I'm in a test market pocket or something but for all that is holy in the realm of cereal, go forth and get yee some Cinnamon Burst Cheerios!
Noosa Yoghurt
Noosa Yoghurt is made in Boulder, CO, which is about the hippiest town I have ever visited. It makes complete sense that this delicious and good for you yoghurt comes from there. Now first of all, I don't get the spelling of "yoghurt" instead of just the more common "yogurt." Their website doesn't have any information on it so until I find out otherwise I'll guess assume that it's just them being quirky. Anyway, I found this yogurt at my local Hy-Vee. There was no low-fat option but I was so intrigued by the look of the yogurt that I had to give it a try despite the calories. Also contributing to my decision, the flavor; strawberry-rhubarb. Strawberry. Rhubarb. And excuse me, I really should not call it "flavor" because it's not flavoring, it's an actual mixture of strawberries and rhubarb in the container. And it's delicious. It's an incredibly thick yogurt, but without the bite of a Greek style product. I ate the yogurt over several different meals, a little bit at a time and after the initial stirring to mix the fruit with the yogurt, I didn't have to mix it again. It didn't get watery or gross. Amen.
Well, that's if for now, next time I'll have some *gasp* calorie free SPRAY BUTTER to talk about! Riveting, I know!
