San Diego Comic-Con 2010: The Event

As I mentioned previously I had won 2 V.I.P. seats at a panel for the NBC show, The Event, beginning this fall. The panel was on Saturday and because of some of ill-communication on my part Superfro and I were running late for the panel. We found ourselves on the opposite side of the convention center than we needed to be. So we bolted, jogged, skipped and in one case, shoved, our way to the correct place and were met by Guy Ram of NBC who introduced to another NBC employee, Jared (maybe?) and they escorted us into the panel room.
They led us to the front row were some seats were reserved. They introduced us to another NBC employee who would be in charge of posting live updates on Twitter during the panel.  It was explained to use that NBC would take us to the press room after the panel so we could meet some of the cast and get some photos taken. I realized that the two Comic-Con sweepstakes were the first of their kind and the Fan-It program is still relatively new so they were probably wanting to get some evidence of their awesomeness.

Just as we sat down the lights dimmed and it was time to watch the first episode of "The Event."

I'm not going to give you a play by play of the show, you'll see and hear enough in the coming weeks to convince you to watch it. It's sort of a combination of mystery and suspense and intrigue and of course, right away things are happening that you don't understand. Remember the first time you saw "24" or "Lost" and you knew that you wanted to keep watching to discover answers? Well, that's how I felt. Now, I'm also totally jaded so there is a sliver of doubt that "The Event" will be a satisfying television watching experience. That doubt is mildly quashed only because after the airing the cast and some of the crew were trotted out for a Q&A. There wasn't much time left so moderator Kristin dos Santos got right to the point, asking what is "the event" and when would we know? Executive producer, Evan Katz promised:

"...everything is designed to answer questions so you're not frustrated or feeling ripped off or that we may not know what we're doing or that we're making it up while we go along, which we we're not. But we're will still spooling out some mysteries. We have two hundred people in L.A. carefully crafting what we hope is twenty-two hours of this, that's smart, good to fans and keeps people guessing in a fair way."

Promising?

After the panel Superfro and I were led to a room across the hall. All along one wall was paper with the Comic-Con logo all over it. Pointed towards the wall were many television cameras, surrounded by people with microphones and headphones and clipboards. The rest of the room was full of large round tables, full of other people with more microphones, laptops and old fashioned pens/paper. In short order the cast and crew filed into the room. Some of them went to the cameras along the wall and began to be interviewed. Others sat at the tables where they would be interviewed for several minutes before getting up and switching tables.

After a while I was taken up to the video cameras and introduced to Jason Ritter, one of the stars of the show. He was super cute and super sweet. The man behind the camera asked me a few questions, including who was my favorite character. In my typical brilliant fashion I pointed a thumb to indicate Jason. I'm a class act!

This is the only picture I have of me with Jason but I'm hoping NBC gets me copies of the ones they took! A million thanks to NBC for the super awesome sweepstakes prize. Hope everyone checks out "The Event" when it starts in September!
